Conversation Questions
Meeting up with someone for the first time? Looking for some conversation starters? Try to stick with open ended questions and practice active listening - that is, be empathetic and reflective and ask questions about anything that it seems like they want to talk more about. Try to understand not just what they are saying, but where the other person is at emotionally and psychologically.
Some great starter topics include:
Tell me about yourself.
Did you grow up with a spiritual background?
What led you to reach out?
What do you believe about God or Jesus?
Where do you think most of your spiritual beliefs come from?
How can I pray for you?
Would you like to join me at church this Sunday?
Do you think that you could make some time to meetup again next week?
Remember, you are trying to get to know this person and trying to be an ambassador for Christ!
Volunteer Guidelines
Coffee with a Christian (CWC) is dedicated to empowering Christians to share the gospel and make disciples. Since we are called to be ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20) volunteers at CWC are asked to demonstrate moral character that reflects biblical standards.
Please note these criteria are not for judging a person's standing with God or their worth in the Body of Christ. They are simply to evaluate if a person is ready to serve in the midst of the spiritual challenges and unique pressures they'll face as a witness for Christ in their community.
1. Read and agree with the distinctives of CWC
There is only one God
Jesus is God
The Holy Spirit is God
The Bible is God breathed and perfect
God created Man
Sin separates us from God
Salvation is a free gift of God
Every believer is sanctified or “set apart” unto God by the death of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Progressive Sanctification)
2. Regularly attend and engage with their local church body
3. Demonstrate biblical character specifically with regards to the following
Love for God and others
Spiritual maturity
Emotional maturity
Dependability
Patience
Kindness
Sexual purity
Teachability
4. While we are not called to be bible experts, volunteers are asked to have a basic knowledge of the bible and preform the following tasks when meeting with seekers.
Show up on-time or communicate when there is a delay
Ask engaging open-ended questions
Humbly admit when they do not know something
Pray for the seeker before the meeting
Ask the seeker if they need prayer for anything
Effectively articulate the Gospel
5. Dress in a manner that is neat, well-groomed and culturally appropriate.
How it Works
Once you have downloaded and installed the app, all you need to do is complete a profile and indicate that you are a Christian.
From here you can check the map to see other Christians who have been designated as ‘Vetting’ resources. These resources are typically pastors or well trained individuals who can make sure that you are properly equipped to share the Gospel. They will want to meetup with you (over coffee) to make sure that you align with our beliefs and ensure that you know how to actively listen to others and share your faith. (If they think that you need additional training they can direct you to resources that will help you grow in your faith to ensure that you are ready.)
Once you’ve been approved in the app you will be able to see other Christians and outreach requests. In addition to this, persons looking to meetup with a Christian will be able to see you as a resource in the zip codes that you indicated when you completed your profile.
We will not sell your personal information to any 3rd parties.
